PKU patients can lead a normal life with Prekulab's nutritional treatment

History

Since 1959, the treatment against PKU-related diseases has involved following a strict dietary strategy primarily aimed at avoiding proteins.

This therapy has been critical since phenylalanine is found in all proteins. And since PKU-afflicted individuals are unable to break down phenylalanine, which therefore accumulates in the body causing great harm, it is vital to avoid proteins.

Usually, the dietary strategy chosen was very strict and did not offer much quality of life since really good recipes for low protein food were difficult to find. The food often lacked taste and the taste of the products that were to replace the various milk products was often not particularly appealing.

One of the factors that caused Prekulab to launch research into PKU was the lack of quality of life, and intense research lead to the development of the product Avonil.

Avonil consists of a blend of all amino acids with a pattern similar to human milk although without phenylalanine.

Since the diets of PKU patients are predominantly vegetarian, most will develop a deficiency of essential fatty acids. Users of Avonil are protected against the sequelas following deficient levels of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Should also be consumed with a meal.
