About us
Prekulab's mission is to improve the life quality of people with PKU.
With a wealth of experience stretching back to 1970, the firm is a specialist in the field of PKU research and products. It uses its substantial knowledge about the area to develop new solutions to help families and those affected by PKU to lead as normal a life as possible. Prekulab is a pioneer in the use of LNAA to allow a more liberal diet for patients.
Prekulab established a successful long-term collaboration with the J.F. Kennedy Institute in Denmark (now Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen) at the leading edge of the treatment of PKU-related diseases, and works globally with specialist clinics and universities including the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Milan and the Clinical Centre of Genetics in Moscow.
Specialised medical foods
For decades, Prekulab has developed and supplied specialised medical foods that allow PKU patients to live better and more ordinary lives. Its first product, Avonil, offers an odour and taste-free PKU option, and along with its second product, PreKUnil, has been helping patients manage PKU for over 30 years.
In 2004, Prekulab developed NeoPhe, a breakthrough in modern PKU treatment, which uses an improved LNAA dietary supplement to allow patients to follow a more liberal diet. Prekulab formulations are protected by patents in the EU, US and China and are clinically proven. Products are manufactured in Denmark with strict GMP compliance.
Prekulab is headquartered in Denmark, and has a global network of agents and distributors. In 2018 it opened its first international subsidiary, Prekulab Turkey. Prekulab’s staff are focused on expanding its distribution network to bring its products to a wider range of patients, worldwide. The team attends all relevant PKU-focused conferences around the world, offering a personal presence for clinicians and patients and encouraging global collaboration.
Patient studies and research
Prekulab works with experts and clinicians around the world to conduct patient studies and participate in research programmes. It is the only provider of such products that can document its results through clinical trials. Prekulab is keen to contribute to new studies and further drug development programmes.
